A port town that has thrived on the bounty of the Sea of Japan.

Echizen Town in Fukui Prefecture has long been a fishermen’s town that prospered with fishing.
Many fishing boats line the port, and various fishing cooperatives bring in lively daily catches of Echizen crab, sweet shrimp (ama-ebi), Echizen flounder, swordtip squid, yellowtail, red sea bream and more.

Above all, the top brand "Echizen crab" is Fukui’s signature specialty. The waters off Mikuni in the Sea of Japan, where warm and cold currents meet, are an outstanding fishing ground rich in plankton and small fish. Feeding on them, the crabs grow large and exceptionally delicious.

Genuine Echizen crab landed here proudly wears a yellow tag on its leg, marking it as an official Fukui brand crab.
